Samsung Q1EX-71G
$750.00
Released March, 2009
The Pros:Design is more compact and sturdy than many competitors, withstands bumps and scratches. Touchscreen is highly responsive and uses a high amount of the area of the tablet's face. Integrated speakers are noticeably better than many competing models.
The Cons:Startup time is unexpectedly long for a tablet. Handwriting recognition feature is inaccurate and frustrating to use. Battery life is shorter than previous models.
The Samsung Q1EX-71G is an ultra mobile personal computer (UMPC) tablet released in late 2009. It features a 1.2GHz Intel processor, 2GB of RAM, a 60GB HDD, and a battery with a maximum 4-hour lifespan.

Samsung intends this to be a more affordable but less powerful alternative to other UMPCs. The slower spinning hard drive and relatively weak processor are somewhat justified by the substantially cheaper list price, as well as the unit's very compact and travel-friendly nature. Also featured on the Q1EX-71G is a 7” touchscreen LCD display with a sharp 1024x600 resolution, integrated speakers with no distortion, and a voice-recording microphone. A 1.3MP cam/webcam is included as well, but it’s posted on the back, making it useless for video chatting, even though there is a shortcut for YouTube video uploading.
